alot people say. ifc they play UTG or if there last act it kinda guides on how to play certain hands or certain people. i know alot people thik position play is important. As for myself I really dont think posotion play is as important as people make it out to be...Just would like to hear your take on it? I rather play the person or the cards that I want to play,. I really never pay attention to the psositon I was in.

In a tournament position is very important to me. I throw A9 in early position most of the time away, with no action in front of me i raise it at button or small blind.
Early in tournies I don't worry much about position but when y ou get to the last couple tables position is a major key to winning tournies. If you are on the button and its checked the whole way around a raise will scare most off and you'll get a good many chips.

I mostly play cash games.. What can I say? First year of playing poker, i really didn't pay much attention in position. Maybe it didn't mean too much, as I was playing really low stakes. Now, on the other hand, my game has improved and i have blinded up, quite a bit... Now position is really important, and position CAN in ALOT of cases make or break the game. Let me try giving you an example.. In short-handed 2/4$ nl utg, you open the pot with lets say AK, AQ or AJ for a healthy 3 x blind raise. The person on the button calls... Statistically you will hit your pair or a better hand 1/3 times on the flop. The flop comes XXX. What do you do when you miss the 2/3 times? Lets say you put out a continuation bet, something you are more or less obligated to do if you don't want your opponent steal the pot, he will call your continuation bet a lot on these stakes even with-out a hand, because he knows the odds of you hitting your pair and expects the continuation bet, as it is quite common. If you fire again on the turn, you might get him too fold, if he called you without a hand on the flop... But you don't know that he is calling you with nothing.. He might already have a hand, or he might try make a re-raise on the turn with-out a hand if he don't believe you. He re-raises you, and what do you do with your ace-high now? When I started playing higher levels, this was a situation which kept occuring, and in my case it really illustrates the point of position. If you on the other hand had made this Ax pre-flop raise on the button, you could have played the situation in a number of different ways. But because you are out of position, you are pressured into a doubtful play(it does work some times though, and you don't HAVE to do this play. But I think this is something rookies does alot(based on my own previous errors)). I hope my point got through and that it might help you.
Position in a game, especially when you are on the last couple of tables is VERY IMPORTANT, but so too are the cards and the people. For instance you could be out of position but you have called a person you know is trying to steal blinds to build his stack for the final table... then you play the player and the cards.

I have been watching the places I am position at lately...And most of the time I will fold if someone before me pushes big and I don't have a strong hand. I also watch and see how many check before me....I have been playing pretty tight lately cause of all the people who push all in the first hour....But I guess they are right position does have a lot to do with it...
Position has taken on greater significance as my game has improved. When I was basically just playing my own hands, I preferred acting after my opponents, but I didn't really watch their patterns and tendencies, so I was using less information to make my decisions. Now that I use more information, acting last allows me to make a higher proportion o good decisions.

Hansen says that position also means you represent more strength when you raise in early positions or before your opponent on the flop for example ... I think it's true, but you still need to be very careful, and even more when you play against donkeys ...

GOOD TOPIC ADAM !!!Nice point LOICVE,POSISTION is the key,and beting after, Is the key to reading your challangers !! if i go to battle, I don't want it to be to my left, If possible..To risky , I can be traped, raised, bluffed, harder to get a true read on player or players that way ..nice topic.
P.S. loicve, it hard to play against loose big eared players, hahahaa ,but i have had a little luck, in trapping instead of betting my hand and that's also including preflop, but by doing this we are also asking for trouble. And I not get called as much ,if showing a patteren of playing to-tight ,So Im allways mixing it up !! I agree, MUST be carefull if want to last in tourney.also enjoyed your feedback> AFRAID.
