I played in seven WSOP events in ‘05, including the Main Event.
Guess who was the only pro to give me a problem.....yep, Hellmuth. This was the $1500 buy in w/ rebuy event about four days before the main event. I was short stacked, in early position and made my move with an A6 suited all-in. Before the next guy could act, Hellmuth says, "Dealer, are you going to let him get away with that?" The dealer didn't see anything and looked quizzical. Hellmuth says, "He made a string bet!". The dealer didn't see it because I didn't make one. Hellmuth calls the floor person over, stops the game, and proceeds to say that I made a string bet. The floor asks the dealer, but he just didn't see it. Hellmuth continued prodding the pro next to him, to confirm the string bet. The other pro really didn’t have much to say as he wasn’t sure what he saw.
Then I finally spoke. I said, "As I moved in my chips, one of my hole cards stuck to my palm and turned over. I quickly covered it up, and continued pushing in my chips. I don't know what he saw....but that's what happened. Hellmuth then says, "Hey, I don't know, I'm over here listening to my ipod. I'm not even in the hand".
I felt like saying more but bit my tongue. I don't know if he was just playing a game on me, or if he is a real jerk.
Well hellmuth got the rep that he is an idiot and a pain in the ass, and it might be true. other pro's feel the same. Damn that was a nice story. Anyway how did it go in wsop?
I'm sorry, I don't know what a string bet is, so I don't know what he accused you of doing. But, on to the point of my post....
Perhaps he recoqnized you as an amature and did that as a psycological attach on you. Maybe he does something simular to all amatures he meets to put them them off their game. Did it alter your normal play?
Hellmuth is an a-hole. He thinks he owns the poker table when he plays. It brings me great satisfaction to see him knocked out of tourneys and then to see him blowup. He has got an ego the size of mouth everest. Always good to see him knocked down some. Why cant he just act like a gentlemen in a gentleman's game? Is it that hard?
Hellmuths attitude at the poker table sucks! But he is a very experienced player and who of us wouldnt want to be in his shoes. The way he acts is what he is known for in the poker industry. Its kinda like his logo. He does win and yes I agree he is a real #($#!
Lol, doesnt suprise me, Phils a good player, but the worst loser ever. Also he will try to use his stardom to try influence people in games, if you want a good laugh catch this weeks Poker After Dark, hes on and takes one good beat from Sean Sheikan, lol, anyways if you dont catch it on Tv Ill let u knwo what happened
